Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has sought to clarify the controversy surrounding the Black Stars captaincy situation by stating that Mohammed Kudus’ run as Black Stars captain was an interim one.
He said this in a pre-game press conference ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad on Friday, March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana has dropped to third place in Group I following Madagascar’s 4-1 win over Central African Republic on March 19. The Black Stars could drop further in the standings depending on how things pan in the game between Comoros and Mali on March 20 at 21:00 GMT.
Speaking in the presence of Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, Henry Asante Twum stated that the only issue regarding the Black Stars captaincy was that of Jordan Ayew ascending to the main captaincy role.

“As far as the Kudus situation, (it) was an interim one. There is only one major issue to talk about which is Jordan (Ayew) taking over from Thomas (Partey) so I think we have to move on from there.”

Kudus served as Black Stars captain in 2025 AFCON qualification games against Sudan and Niger.
