Ipswich Town are teetering on the edge of relegation after a ruthless 4-0 defeat to Arsenal at Portman Road.

The Gunners denied Liverpool an early title celebration, delivering a dominant performance against a struggling Ipswich side that played over an hour with 10 men.

Leandro Trossard opened the scoring in the 14th minute after Bukayo Saka’s cross was flicked on by Martin Ødegaard. Gabriel Martinelli made it 2–0 shortly after, tapping in from a clever Mikel Merino assist following more sharp work from Saka.

Ipswich’s day went from bad to worse when Leif Davis was sent off in the 32nd minute for a reckless tackle on Saka.

Arsenal kept the pressure on, with Trossard grabbing his second of the game in the 69th minute from a well-executed short corner. Substitute Ethan Nwaneri capped off the rout two minutes from time with a deflected strike.

Ipswich have now lost 20 of their 33 league games and suffered their seventh home defeat of 2025. Their Premier League status is hanging by a thread as they prepare to face Newcastle next.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s attention shifts back to Europe, with a Champions League semi-final against PSG looming. Mikel Arteta used the match to test a new midfield setup in the absence of Thomas Partey, with Declan Rice anchoring and Merino restored to his natural role alongside Ødegaard.

The only concern for Arteta was Saka requiring ankle strapping after Davis’ red-card tackle, but the Gunners look sharp heading into their season-defining stretch.
