The Director of Sports at the University of Ghana, Dr. Austin Luguterah, says hosting the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship perfectly aligns with the university’s institutional goals and commitment to student development.
The Legon Stadium will serve as the central venue for the prestigious tournament, which takes place from April 21 to 26, 2025.
This will be the first time the championship is hosted in West Africa, and preparations are already underway to ensure Ghana puts on a world-class event.
Dr. Luguterah emphasized that beyond football, the championship presents a unique opportunity to highlight Ghana’s capacity to host major continental sporting events while promoting youth development, education, and the values of teamwork, discipline, and excellence through sport.

This event offers a great platform not only for young talents across Africa but also for the University of Ghana to demonstrate its readiness and commitment to supporting sports at the highest level
Regarding infrastructure, Dr. Luguterah clarified that while the Legon Stadium remains structurally sound, some minor pitch renovations are necessary to meet CAF’s tournament standards.
As is standard with international competitions, inspections will be done to ensure all facilities meet the required benchmarks. For us, it’s mainly pitch work ; not that the stadium is defaced or anything of that sort.

These are improvements that were already noted during the African Games. In fact, we were told that most pitches across the country, not just ours, needed upgrades to meet international standards,” he explained.
The 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, which will take place from 21 – 26 April 2025, is expected to draw teams from across the continent, transforming the University of Ghana campus into a vibrant hub of youth football, cultural exchange, and sporting excellence.
