The National Sports Authority (NSA) has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to revitalize sports infrastructure, successfully reclaiming a prime piece of land equivalent to five football fields in Tamale, the Northern regional capital.
NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, appointed just six weeks ago, has emphasised that resetting sports across all departments requires strategic planning, determination, and relentless effort.
His leadership is already showing promise through innovative initiatives and proactive interventions.
During a recent working visit to Tamale, Ankrah met with NSA management and staff at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
The visit revealed a mix of challenges and opportunities: deteriorating stadium facilities in need of urgent attention and the exciting potential for new investment and development at the iconic Tamale Kaladan Park.
Nicknamed the “Sakora Pitch,” Kaladan Park, the historic home of Real Tamale United, has hosted numerous legendary football matches. Chief Director Alhaji Abubakar Mahamoud confirmed that the NSA has regained control of the park following a prolonged legal battle.
Additionally, the authority has secured most of the encroached lands surrounding the park, clearing the way for significant investment once documentation is finalised.
The NSA is now poised to engage investors for transformative developmental projects at Kaladan Park, marking a pivotal step in its broader strategy to elevate sports infrastructure and foster regional growth.
