Nottingham Forest edged closer to an improbable Champions League berth with a dramatic 2-1 win over a beleaguered West Ham side, who slumped to their 17th league defeat of the campaign.
Goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nikola Milenković capitalized on glaring defensive errors, leaving Graham Potter’s Hammers drowning in boos and uncertainty.
The match began at a frantic pace, with both sides carving early chances. Forest keeper Matz Sels produced a brilliant fingertip save to deny Tomas Soucek’s header inside the opening minutes, while Alphonse Areola responded in kind to stop efforts from Gibbs-White and Chris Wood.
But it was Areola who would hand Forest the opener in calamitous fashion. In the 11th minute, his attempted pass out to Guido Rodriguez was cut out by the alert Gibbs-White, who calmly fired into an empty net to stun the home crowd.

Forest continued to press, and their persistence paid off again in the second half. Anthony Elanga’s dangerous free-kick was inadvertently flicked in off Nikola Milenković’s back, the ball kissing the far post before crossing the line.
A six-minute VAR check ; complicated by the absence of semi-automated offside technology and communication issues between officials finally confirmed the goal to raucous cheers from the away end.

West Ham, toothless for large spells, found late fire through Jarrod Bowen. Capitalizing on a poor headed clearance from Morato, the winger lashed home a stunning volley with four minutes of normal time left to give the Hammers a lifeline.
The final stages were breathless. With 16 minutes of added time, West Ham threw everything forward, but Sels stood tall, making several crucial interventions to preserve Forest’s lead.

As the whistle blew, Nottingham Forest ; now seventh in the table and only a point behind Chelsea, Newcastle, and Aston Villa celebrated a statement win that keeps their Champions League dream alive. They face Chelsea on the final day, knowing a win, combined with favorable results, could make history.
For West Ham, however, the crisis deepens. Boos rang around the London Stadium, and Graham Potter’s side remain mired in 15th ; fragile, faltering, and searching for answers.
