Kpando Heart of Lions Administrator Stephen Botchway has revealed that navigating the domestic transfer market poses unique challenges, forcing his club to adopt a hands‑on approach ahead of the 2025–26 Ghana Premier League season.
After clinching second place in last season’s campaign, just one year after earning promotion back to the top flight in 2023–24, Heart of Lions found themselves needing reinforcements.
But unlike the well‑resourced systems in Europe, he says Ghanaian clubs lack the data infrastructure that makes scouting straightforward.
The Ghanaian system is not that transparent compared to Europe where you want to buy a player ,you have the data of the player and then you can easily acquire the player.
We are in Ghana where you even find it difficult to watch other opponents to justify who you want to get into your team. So we started a trial for I think the past three weeks. We gathered a few couple of them, I think about 15 players.

Over the past three weeks, those 15 hopefuls have been training alongside the first team as part of an intensive trial Programme.
Botchway explains that once the trials conclude, the club will return to the market to finalise signings and ensure the squad is fully prepared.
So after we go back into the market, look at the various look‑alikes we have to fill before the season begins. So on transfer, we are going to bring in players.

Definitely some will leave, some will come, but we want to ensure that the right players come and join Heart of Lion Football Club before the season 2025‑2026 season begins.
