17-year-old Afi Julienne Amezado and Oluwole Temitope Akinroye will represent Ghana at the 2025 International Pairs World Final in Sun City, South Africa, after emerging victorious at the International Pairs Ghana Playoff held at the Achimota Golf Club.
With a total of 41 points, the pair held off stiff competition from across the country to clinch the national title. Amezado, currently ranked on the World Amateur Golf Rankings, teamed up with the vastly experienced transaction banking executive and consultant, Akinroye, to top the field of 52 competing pairs.
This year’s playoff featured 52 pairs drawn from five qualifying events staged across Ghana, including tournaments at Centre of the World golf club, Tema, Celebrity golf club, Sakumono, Achimota Golf Club Achimota, Pra River Links, Shama, Royal Golf Course Kumasi

The competition is spearheaded by Legend Sports Management, headed by CEO Abdul Aziz Amankwa, the sole licensee of the International Pairs Ghana franchise. What began with just 10 pairs three years ago has now grown into a nationwide series, drawing top club golfers from every region.
The winning pair now advances to the world final in Sun City, South Africa, scheduled for October 6–10, 2025.
The pair of Amezado and Akinroye kept consistent form throughout the 18-hole Stapleford round, navigating the Achimota greens with calculated risk-taking and smart course management.

Though a few teams threatened the top spot midway through the round, it was Amezado’s short game and Akinroye’s steady driving that ultimately gave them the edge.
For 17-year-old Afi Julienne Amezado, the victory was not just a career milestone; it was a dream come true.
It feels so amazing that we won, and I’m really happy we’re going to represent Ghana in South Africa,” she said, beaming with pride. “You should expect the best from us.

Amezado, currently juggling her studies with golf, admitted that preparation for the tournament wasn’t easy.
I’ve been preparing as much as I can, but because I’m in school, I didn’t get the chance to train as much as I wanted. I’m just grateful it turned out well.
Her composure, despite the challenges, helped power the pair to a solid 41-point finish.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, South Africa’s High Commissioner to Ghana emphasized that the tournament is more than a golf competition; it’s a reflection of values that unite nations and inspire leadership.
Golf is more than a sport; it is indeed a philosophy that demands practice, precision, discipline, focus, and resilience.
These are the same qualities that drive leadership in the corporate world. Golf offers a relaxed but powerful platform for networking, sharing ideas, and building enduring partnerships.

He further noted that the event serves as a celebration of shared values between sport and enterprise, while also reinforcing the long-standing bilateral relationship between Ghana and South Africa, rooted in shared history and deepened by trade, cultural exchange, and strategic cooperation.
CEO of Legends Sports Management, Abdul Aziz Amankwa, expressed his satisfaction with the scale and success of the 2025 International Pairs Ghana Playoff, noting the growth in participation since the event’s inception three years ago.
“Today is a combination of months of planning and executing quite a number of qualifiers,” he said. “We started from Tema, then did Celebrity, Achimota, Prampram, and Kumasi.
Out of that, we got 52 pairs; 104 players in today’s final. Even players who didn’t win were excited just to be part of it. For me, it’s been a resounding success.”

Looking ahead, Amankwa revealed an ambitious vision for Ghana’s international representation, aiming to eventually field multiple teams in different categories at the International Pairs World Final.
At the global level, there are different categories; ladies’ pairs, mixed pairs, and the regular pairs,” he explained. What we’ve done here is just select one team.
But in the next five years, I want Ghana to be represented in all three divisions. That, for me, would mark a real step forward in growing the game.

As the sun set over the Achimota Golf Club, Afi Julienne Amezado and Oluwole Temitope Akinroye stood tall; not just as winners, but as ambassadors for Ghana’s growing presence on the global amateur golf scene. With composure, chemistry, and resilience, the pair earned their ticket to Sun City, where they will represent the nation at the 2025 International Pairs World Final in October.

Tournament organizers and supporters alike hailed the 2025 edition as the most successful yet, with record participation and growing enthusiasm across the club golf community.
For Amezado and Akinroye, the real journey begins now; as they carry the hopes of a nation onto the world stage.
