Head coach of Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team, James Kwesi Appiah, has rued his team’s missed chances to bag a win over Madagascar in this year’s CHAN semifinals.
Sudan lost 1-0 to the island nation to miss out on making it to the final game of the tournament that is eligible to only African players who compete in their respective national leagues.
Madagascar scored the winner in the 116th minute through Toky Niaina to secure progression to the finals against Morocco.
Sudan will play for bronze against Senegal on Friday, August 29 and reflecting on the loss, Ghanaian trainer, Kwesi Appiah, lamented the chances his team wasted.
“I think that tactically, the second half was not on our side. In a football match, the winning team should not waste the only opportunity it gets to score. Our opponents, Madagascar, played well, and with only 10 players, they were good.”

“This is a building process, and unfortunately, for two and a half years, we haven’t had a league in Sudan. If things stabilize and the local league resumes, things might improve, and we can hope for better results. We believe that with determination, we can achieve what we want, and we will do well in our upcoming matches” Appiah said to CAF.

The North African country is dealing with a civil war that forced the team to assemble just four days before the start of the competition.
