The Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo continue to maintain their lead atop Group B standings in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after picking up its latest win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
DR Congo clinched a 4-1 win over South Sudan in Juba with Real Betis striker Cedric Bakambu bagging a brace and newly signed Newcastle United forward Yoane Wissa getting on the scoresheet.
However, the biggest draw for the game was West Ham United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka making his debut with DR Congo at the senior level.
The former Manchester United player was born in England and represented the country at the junior levels but reportedly turned down multiple attempts from the Congolese Federation to play for the African country until this month.

Wan-Bissaka accepted the invitation to play in DR Congo’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Sudan and Senegal. In his first game for the Leopards, Wan-Bissaka played 77 minutes.

He was replaced by Gedeon Kalulu; DR Congo take on Senegal next on September 9 in a battle between the top two ranked teams in the Group.

Senegal have 15 points from seven games while DR Congo have 16 points from seven games.
