Minority owner of Manchester United Football Club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has stated that running a club like the English Premier League side can’t be done by taking knee-jerk decisions.

In an interview with The Business Podcast, the businessman who leads British chemical giants INEOS, added that Man United head coach Ruben Amorim needs three years at the club to prove he is a “great” coach.

Ratcliffe’s INEOS took charge of 30% ownership of Man United in the latter half of the 2023-2024 season and brought in Amorim after sacking Erik Ten Hag.

However, the Portuguese coach has had a testing time at Old Trafford having won eight games, lost 16 games and drawn seven times in the Premier League while overseeing Man United lose to League Two side Grimsby Town to crash out of the Carabao Cup.

However, Sir. Jim Ratcliffe is adamant about the quality of Amorim and suggested that the way the club won’t be affected by outside noise particularly from the press.

“He-Ruben Amorim- has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be. The press, sometimes I don’t understand. They want overnight success.”

“They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow. You can’t run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week” Ratcliffe said.
