Aston Villa produced a composed away performance to defeat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James’ Park, with goals in either half sealing all three points.
The visitors struck first in the 18th minute when Emiliano Buendía unleashed a stunning right-footed effort from outside the box, beating Nick Pope to give Villa an early lead.
Newcastle pushed for an equaliser before the break, but were repeatedly denied by a resilient Villa backline and key saves from Emiliano Martínez.

The hosts came out stronger after halftime, creating several chances through Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon, but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal. Villa remained patient and disciplined, absorbing pressure and looking dangerous on the counter.

That approach paid off late in the game. In the 87th minute, Ollie Watkins rose highest to head home from close range after a Lucas Digne corner, doubling Villa’s advantage and effectively killing off the contest.

Despite late pressure and eight minutes of added time, Newcastle were unable to find a response as Villa saw out the game comfortably.
The result marks an important away victory for Aston Villa, while Newcastle are left to reflect on missed chances in a frustrating night at home.
