The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Committee is meeting today, April 7, 2026, with a key item high on the agenda being the appointment of the next Black Stars head coach.

The meeting comes at a crucial moment for Ghana football following the dismissal of Otto Addo, with the GFA under pressure to quickly settle on a new technical direction for the senior national team.

The senior national team, the Black Stars, has been struggling for consistency in recent outings, raising concerns about Ghana’s readiness as the team builds toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana’s recent performances have fallen below expectations, with issues around cohesion, chance creation, and defensive stability drawing criticism from fans and pundits alike. The dip in form has intensified calls for a strong technical hand to steady the team.

Sources have told Citi Sports that three candidates have been shortlisted for the vacant position, although their identities remain undisclosed. The Executive Committee is expected to deliberate on the options and narrow down to a preferred candidate during today’s sitting.

Once a final decision is reached, the GFA is expected to engage the government in subsequent discussions over the chosen coach, in line with the collaborative approach often adopted in major national team appointments.

It will be recalled that the GFA President Kurt Okraku had earlier indicated that the process would be swift. Speaking in an interview shortly after Otto Addo’s exit, Okraku assured that a new coach would be announced within “a week or two,” signaling urgency in filling the role ahead of upcoming international assignments.

Today’s meeting is therefore seen as a decisive step toward naming the next Black Stars coach, as the federation works to restore stability and direction within the team.
