Spain Head Coach Luis De La Fuente has described defender Marc Cucurella as one of the best left full-backs in the world.
He said this in the lead-up to Spain’s opening game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Cape Verde, where he added that winger Lamine Yamal won’t play out the entire duration of the contest after recovering from injury.
Cucurella’s move from Chelsea to Real Madrid was confirmed on Monday, June 15, with the six-year deal reportedly costing 55 million Euros, with five million in add-ons. Cucurella’s deal at Real Madrid is set to end in 2032.
Speaking about the former Brighton and Hove Albion player, De La Fuente tagged Cucurella as one of the world’s premier wing defenders.
“If you ask me about Cucurella for the national team, he’s convincing…He’s been with us since he was 17; I know his performance, the quality and potential he has. He might be one of the best left-backs in the world, without doubt,” Cucurella said.
