A planned friendly game between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chile in the Spanish town of La Linea de la Concepcion has been cancelled over Ebola fears connected to the African nation.
DR Congo has been dealing with a serious outbreak of Ebola since the start of the year leading to the death of over 150 people in the country.
The friendly game against Chile was set to take place on June 9 as DR Congo prepare to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite having all of its players playing outside DR Congo, the Leopards have faced serious scrutiny over the Ebola outbreak as some members of its World Cup contingent are based in the country.
According to ESPN, Mayor of La Linea, Juan Franco confirmed that he was directed by the Spanish Regional Health Service to postpone the game.

“I have signed the decree banning the holding of the match between the DR Congo and Chile. A report by the head of the mayoralty’s health service of La Línea advised categorically against hosting the match given the health risks which might arise” he said.

DR Congo have been drawn in Group K with Uzbekistan, Colombia and Portugal.
