Ghana has extended a remarkable 28-year record of remaining unbeaten in their second group-stage match at the FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations.
The run, which began after a 2-1 defeat to Togo at AFCON 1998, has now stretched to five consecutive second group games without defeat.

The latest result came on June 23, 2026, when Ghana held England to a 0-0 draw. Since 2006, the sequence has continued across major tournaments.
Ghana beat the Czech Republic 2-0 at the 2006 World Cup, drew 1-1 with Australia in 2010, and shared a 2-2 draw with Germany in 2014. At the 2022 World Cup, they defeated South Korea 3-2 before the latest stalemate against England in 2026.
Across the five matches, Ghana has recorded two wins and three draws, keeping the record intact for 28 years.
