Ghana Athletics has named a 13-member squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Joseph Amoah leading a team that combines experienced internationals with emerging talents.
The Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, with Ghana set to compete in the sprints, relays, hurdles, high jump, 400m hurdles, and middle-distance events.

Azamati returns to lead Ghana’s sprint team after recovering from a groin injury that sidelined him from the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra. The national 100m record holder heads to Glasgow with a season’s best of 10.00 seconds, recorded in Sherman Oaks, California, on June 13.

Joseph Paul Amoah, a key member of Ghana’s relay setup, also earns selection after running 20.24 seconds in the 200m this season. He will be joined in the men’s sprint events by Mustapha Bokpin, Isaac Botsio, Abdul Rasheed Saminu and James Dadzie as Ghana targets a strong showing in the 4x100m relay.

Bokpin arrives in strong form after setting a personal best of 20.04 seconds at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, while Botsio has clocked 10.06 seconds in the 100m this season. Saminu has posted a season’s best of 10.36 seconds, with Dadzie recording 20.31 seconds in the 200m.

Mammoudu Baba Seidu will represent Ghana in the men’s 400m hurdles after running 49.45 seconds earlier this year.
The women’s team will be led by Deborah Acheampong, Anita Afrifa and Evonne Britton, who will compete in the sprint and relay events.

Acheampong enters the Games with a season’s best of 11.21 seconds in the 100m, while Afrifa has recorded 23.03 seconds in the 200m. Britton will compete in the 100m hurdles after posting 12.86 seconds this season.

High jumper Rose Yeboah also makes the squad after clearing 1.96m during the NCAA season, continuing her run as one of Ghana’s leading field athletes on the international stage.

Middle distance runner Abigail Abugire will compete in the women’s 800m after recording a season’s best of 2:01.79, while Lovina Ewusi has been selected for the 400m and the women’s 4x100m relay after running 55.75 seconds this year.

Ghana Athletics said the athletes secured their places through a qualification process based on performances at national trials and recent competitions.
The governing body added that Team Ghana will head to Glasgow aiming to build on recent performances at continental and international competitions while maintaining the country’s strong Commonwealth Games tradition.
