“We deserved to lose to Star Madrid in FA Cup”- Dwarfs head coach Ernest Thompson Quartey

Head coach of Ebusua Dwarfs, Ernest Thompson Quartey, has admitted that his side had no right to win their MTN FA Cup Round of 64 tie against Star Madrid which was played on Monday in Cape Coast.

The Premier League side fell 6-5 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in 90 minutes.

Moro Sumaila levelled things for Dwarfs after they had conceded but they could not kick on to win the tie as they missed twice in the penalty shootout.

After the match, Quartey stated that the team was second best on the day and the result was right and fair to their opponents.

“Star Madrid deserved it more than we did. We did not turn up today. We had a lot of injuries to some of our most important players like Simon Martey, Dennis Korsah, Amos Korankye and some others.

That affected us and we had to use some of the fringe players. Unfortunately, it did not pay off and we lost the tie.

I thought we would win this game hands down but the players failed to implement what we went through on the training pitch.”

Quartey stated that the team would have to move on from the defeat and focus on their impending Ghana Premier League matches.

Dwarfs face Inter Allies (home), Great Olympics (away), King Faisal (home), Eleven Wonders (away), Legon Cities (home) and Berekum Chelsea (away) in the month of March.
