Manchester United‘s co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has closed the stadium’s paid-for staff canteen in his latest round of cost-cutting measures at the Red Devils training ground, according to reports.

Since taking partial control of the club last year, Ratcliffe’s tenure has been characterised by a series of cuts across the side’s infrastructure, including cancelling the Christmas party.

These measures have also seen funding for a charity supporting former players slashed, as well as an increase in ticket prices.

But one of his latest moves is likely to impact everyone at the club outside of the first team.

The Guardian has reported Ratcliffe is to close the staff canteen at Old Trafford, with fruit to be offered instead of free lunches. It is expected to be shut by the end of the week as United’s employees continue to feel the impact of Ineos’ efforts to slash costs.

In a separate decision, United are set to serve just soup and sandwiches at Carrington to everybody not in the first-team squad in the latest bid to save money, according to The Sun
