Ghana’s Elite Golfer Daniel List has challenged the perception that golf is an expensive sport, arguing that affordability depends largely on location and available programs.
Speaking at a Meet the Press session at the Accra Sports Stadium, List explained that while golf is seen as an elite sport in many countries, places like the U.S. have made it more accessible through structured programs.
It’s actually an expensive sport depending on where you are. There are places in the U.S. where it’s actually relatively cheap to get started in the game thanks to the programs that they have in place, like the university. The real thing that it comes down to is the starting costs. And that can be as expensive or as cheap as you make it based on what golf clubs you get. You can go and find some old golf clubs that will do the job when learning.

He further emphasized his commitment to making golf more accessible to Ghanaian youth through his Daniel List Foundation, which focuses on breaking financial barriers in the sport.
“But at the grassroots level, you can make it inexpensive if you have the right things in place, which is why the Daniel List Foundation is formed, because over time, we’re trying to make it as accessible as possible for the youth.”
List’s foundation aims to provide young Ghanaians with opportunities to explore golf without the usual financial burden, ensuring that talent; not cost-determines who gets to play the sport.
