Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is set to miss the opening game for the 2025-2026 NBA season to a lower back injury.

The soon to be 40 year old is dealing with sciatica and is expected to be out of action between three to four weeks that takes him out of contention to play in the Lakers pre-season games.

The injury to the Lakers small forward also rules him out of the team’s season opener against the Golden State Warriors on October 22 at 2:00 GMT.

Despite the injury, there is little concern regarding the availability of the former Cleveland Cavaliers player for the campaign as he aims to win his fifth NBA title and second NBA title with the Lakers.

James played 70 games in the 2023-2024 NBA regular season and averaged 27 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists; in the playoffs, the Lakers lost the best of seven games series (4-1) to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.

Playing in this upcoming season would mark LeBron’s second year playing in the NBA with his son LeBron James Jnr popularly known as Bronny James.
