Liverpool’s French forward Hugo Ekitike has explained the reason for not celebrating his goal scored in a UEFA Champions League tie.

Ekitike scored in Liverpool’s 5-1 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany with the win ending a terrible run by The Reds in recent weeks that had Arne Slot’s team lose four straight games.

The French striker scored Liverpool’s equaliser in the 35th minute and chose not to celebrate the goal.

Ekitike joined Liverpool this off-season from Frankfurt and this connection played a major part in his decision to not celebrate his goal.

“I have so much respect for Frankfurt. They made me the player I am and I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t go to Frankfurt. I am respectful and grateful for what they did to me” he said to the BBC.

He also spoke about the importance of getting his first Champions League goal in Liverpool colours.

“It was a great feeling [to come back to Frankfurt]. It was something special to come back home. To win and score my first Champions League goal here was important.”

“I feel really good and they have helped me a lot, that is why I am calm and doing my thing” he said to TNT Sports after the game.
