Commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Adam Silver is expected to brief the US Congress on matters concerning the betting scandal that has rocked the league.

Unanimously regarded as the greatest basketball league in the world, the NBA has been engulfed in the fallout from illegal betting and gambling scandal with ties to families in the Italian mafia.

As many as 30 individuals have been arrested in connection to the scandal that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced after a four year investigation.

Portland Trailblazers head coach Chauncey Billups, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Damon Jones were cited for allegedly playing various roles in the scandal.

Billups has since been released from custody and is on suspension; he has since been replaced on an interim basis by former San Antonio Spurs center Tiago Splitter. Like Billups, Rozier has been suspended.

In the wake of the FBI’s investigations, the US Congress has called on Adam Silver for a briefing by October 31.

In an interview with Amazon, Silver said he was “deeply disturbed” and the development was “very upsetting”.
