Chelsea FC have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior following a disastrous run of results, bringing his short-lived reign at Stamford Bridge to an abrupt end.

The decision, confirmed on April 22, 2026, follows a brutal sequence of five straight Premier League defeats without scoring ; Chelsea’s worst goalless losing streak in league football since 1912.

Rosenior’s final game in charge ended in a 3–0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, a result that ultimately sealed his fate.

Rosenior’s time at Chelsea FC lasted just:

  • 107 days in charge
  • 23 matches managed
  • 10 wins, 10 defeats, 3 draws

He had only taken over in January 2026 after replacing Enzo Maresca, signing a long-term deal under the club’s ownership.

Chelsea have moved quickly, appointing Calum McFarlane as interim manager for the remainder of the season.

The timing is critical, with the Blues set to face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final this weekend.

Another Sudden Exit in His Career

This marks the second major managerial setback for Rosenior in recent years.

He was previously dismissed by Hull City AFC in 2024 despite narrowly missing out on the Championship play-offs, before rebuilding his reputation at RC Strasbourg Alsace.

Several factors contributed to his downfall:

  • Lack of goals – over a month without scoring in the league
  • Poor form – five straight defeats
  • No time to implement style – as he himself admitted

What began as a long-term project quickly turned into a short-term crisis.

What Next for Chelsea?

Chelsea FC now face a crucial decision:

  • Stick with an interim solution until summer
  • Or move quickly for a permanent replacement

With European qualification slipping and a cup semi-final looming, the club’s next move could define their season.
