“They are good players; they just need time” – Newcastle Manager backs underperforming signings

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has backed underperforming signings of the Magpies to come good in the near future.

Howe came to the defence of forwards Yoanne Wissa and Nick Woltemade as both players have failed to live up to expectations following their move to the club from Brentford and Stuttgart respectively.

Wissa dealt with a knee injury that kept him out for several months but his return has yielded just a goal in 16 league games.

Woltemade on the other hand, had a decent run but has fallen out of the starting unit; the German has seven goals and three assists in 30 league games.

“Yeah, I do [see both staying next season]. It’s difficult for me to give absolute certainty to that because the players themselves will have a big say in that as well but my wish is that they are both here.”

“I really think they’ve both got outstanding qualities. I think they can make a difference. I think they can really help the team. I think they’re all very, very good players, they just need a little bit of time” Howe said in a presser ahead of Newcastle’s league tie against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, May 10.
