Ahead of England National Men’s Football Team head coach Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad announcement on Friday, May 22, defender Harry Maguire has revealed that he won’t be included in the setup.
The Manchester United player made this revelation on his X (formerly Twitter) page in the lead up to the announcement on Friday.
The former Leicester City player was aiming to compete in the upcoming World Cup where The Three Lions have been paired in Group L with Ghana, Croatia and Panama.
After featuring in England’s last international friendlies against Japan and Uruguay where England lost 1-0 and drew 1-1 respectively, there were hopes that Maguire could end up getting selected for the World Cup but in his social media post, he confessed that he was gutted by the omission.

“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer” Maguire said.
