Basketball star Victor Wembanyama has signed a five year contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs with the deal set to extend his stay with the NBA franchise.
The 22 year signed the deal according to the Spurs on Friday, July 10 with the contract including a player option in the fifth year.
By extending his contract this offseason, Wembanyama truned down the chance to sign an even more lucrative contract to stick with the Spurs.
As a two time NBA All-Star and reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Wembanyama was eligible to sign a contract worth $302 million representing 30% of the salary cap but opted to sign a deal that pays him an average annual salary of $50.4 million representing 25% of the salary cap.

Reacting to the news, the 7 foot 3 inch French player wrote on X, “Spurs family, I’m here to stay. Whatever it takes”.

In his third season in the NBA, Wembanyama led San Antonio to its first NBA Finals appearance since 2014; San Antonio lost to New York Knicks in the finals.
