Travis Kelce has moved into second place on the NFL’s all-time receiving yards list for tight ends after helping the Kansas City Chiefs open the new season with a 31-10 win over the Denver Broncos.
Kelce recorded 71 yards on three catches at Arrowhead Stadium, leading the Chiefs in receiving yards in the opening-week victory.
The 36-year-old’s performance took his career total to 13,073 receiving yards, surpassing Jason Witten’s 13,046 yards. Kelce now trails only Pro Football Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, who finished his career with 15,127 receiving yards.
The game also marked Patrick Mahomes’ return to action after seven months out with an ACL injury. Kelce’s latest milestone adds to his remarkable career and further cements his status among the greatest tight ends in NFL history.
“I had guys blocking for me downfield, man. It’s a beautiful thing when you’ve got the cavalry out in front, man” Kelce said after the game while reflecting on his highlight moment off a 59 yard reception.
Kelce’s wife, American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift, was at the stadium and was captured celebrating Kelce’s big play in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium.
