#AFCONonCiti: Kwesi Appiah promises goals from Black Stars

Black  Stars head coach, Kwesi Appiah, has assured Ghanaians that the team will find the net with regularity during the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Fans of the team have expressed concern at the team’s inability to score as the two pre-tournament friendlies Ghana was involved in ended did not see the Black Stars score.

They lost 1-0 to Namibia and drew goalless with South Africa in those matches.

Appiah told reporters at Monday’s pre-match press conference that there were no issues with Ghana’s ability to score and that there would be goals during their run in Egypt.

“The scoreline in our two trial games are not that important. The most important thing is what have you done afterwards. We have worked on that and hopefully we will see some goals. All the teams in our group are strong but the most important thing is preparing well to face them and that is what we have done.”

Despite the promise of scoring goals, Appiah admitted that it would not be easy as teams on the continent had gotten better over time.

“Modern football has changed and there is no way you can underrate any team and every team is pushing but I believe in my players. I have full confidence in them and I know they will deliver.”

10-year winning return for Andre Ayew?

In 2009, Andre Ayew led Ghana to win its maiden and Africa’s only U-20 World Cup title in Egypt. That time, he and his team mates withstood a red card and extra time to go past Brazil in the finals on penalties.

Ayew was taken down memory lane by questions from reporters but he chose to focus on the present task of helping the Black Stars senior team to success.

“Things have changed and 10 years ago is 10 years ago but I am happy to be back here and  I hope we are able to do something. We have prepared well and I think we can do greater things here.”
