Ghana’s male and female relay teams are set to fight for a spot in the Tokyo Olympic Games as they compete in the World Athletics Relays in Silesia, Poland this weekend.

Ghana will seal qualification if they finish in the top 8 in both categories.

The qualification looks likely as Canada, the USA, Jamaica, Nigeria, Australia, and Trinidad and Tobago all pulled out ahead of the relay events because of COVID-19 travel complications.

The competition starts from today, May 1, 2021, in Silesia.

According to the Ghana Athletics Association, the trip for the contingent of 13 received support from the National Sports Authority and Sports Ministry.

The gesture was heavily appraised by the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asigbey.

Flings Owusu Agyapong, Janet Amponsah, Gemma Acheampong, Halutie Hor, and Latifa Ali among the women representing the country.

The International Association of Athletics Federations World Relays takes place in Silesia from May 1, 2021, to May 2, 2021.
