President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has urged athletes competing in the 13th African Games to showcase the power of sports.
He said this in his speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the African Games that is being held in Ghana for the first time.
The opening ceremony took place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon that had Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif and Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat in attendance.
In his speech, Honourable Mustapha Ussif, credited Nana Akufo-Addo for fronting the provision of the finest sports facilities in the West African sub region for the Games. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
On his part, President Akufo-Addo charged the athletes to show the benefits of sports through their competition to the African continent.
“Sports has the power to bring people of diverse cultures and backgrounds together, and it is heart -warming to witness the unity of Africa through sports. To the athletes…I urge you to step onto this stage with confidence and showcase the power of sports.”
The 13th African Games runs from March 8 to March 23 with a majority of the competition set to be held at the University of Ghana Stadium and Borteyman Sports Complex.
