Gideon Fosu, the head of the local organizing committee for the WAFU U17 Cup of Nations, has emphasized that the 13th African Games, which were held recently, provided a model for the committee to follow in order to effectively organize and win the 2024 U-17 Boys Cup of Nations in May.
The host nation, Ghana, is joined by Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso, and the reigning champions, Nigeria, in the 2024 U-17 Boys Cup of Nations.
Fosu thinks the African games have given the committee a chance to learn from the bad experiences and embrace the good.
“I think what the African games present to us as a committee is to take the positives from the African games and also to learn from the negatives and make sure we correct them as we also try to host a part of Africa.
We have picked up a lot of lessons from the African games and we are seeking to have an improved version of what we all witnessed in Ghana.
So, as always, the ‘host and win’ mantra has always been with us. We are drawing inspiration from the Black Satellites and Black Princesses and so it will mean that the u17 team led by Laryea Kingston will try to emulate what the lads have done so it’s certainly going to be a host and win.”
The WAFU Zone B champion is anticipated to take place in Accra, Ghana, from May 15–29, 2024. Additionally, it will serve as the qualifiers for the TotalEnergies u17 African Cup of Nations.
