Deputy Chief Executive Officer of New Edubiase Football Club, Emmanuel Akwasi Boahen, has stated in his private capacity as a football stakeholder that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should look to support football clubs in Ghana financially more first before it looks to acquire the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and operate the system.
He said this in an exclusive interview with ChannelOne Sports following the conclusion of the two day GFA 30th Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram where GFA President Kurt Okraku indicated that the Association was close to purchase and use the VAR.
Per the football administrator, acquiring the VAR machine cost roughly $150,000 and the operation cost of the system in a league setting cost approximately $6million and he believes that the huge financial input should be directed to football clubs.
“What I know is getting one VAR is around $150,000 to $200,000 just a single VAR and running a single VAR for a whole season, even in Europe, I think it’s $6.5 million for a whole season.”

“If we have such an amount of money bringing in VAR, to me, I would suggest, why don’t we support the clubs with such an amount to make the clubs better, better our league, better our referees before we even look at the VAR. That is my opinion not the club Edubiase.”
