Kwame Owusu Danso, convener for the Forum for Accountable Governance, Kwame Owusu Danso, has stated that he won’t further query how $245 million used to organize the 2023 African Games was spent should the Office of Special Prosecution (OSP) find nothing wrong after it investigates the issue. He said this in an interview with the media after petitioning the OSP to investigate the aforementioned issue in the wake of multiple controversies stemming from expenses made during the Games. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The legal practitioner expressed confidence in the OSP to handle the issue by highlighting the OSP’s competence in handling such matters.
“If investigations are conducted and…the outcome is that there are no corruption related matters inherent in the organization of the African Games, I think the matter would have been brought to bed so I would not further query or ask questions about it. At least, my conscience would be satisfied that I’ve done the Lord’s duty for the good people of this country.”
At a Public Accounts Committee hearing, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, stated that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) has been given an amount in excess of $3 million to cover the multi sport competition but GBC Director-General, Professor Amin Alhassan denied this leading to further calls for investigation into the Games.
