Ghana midfielder Abdul Salis Samed has officially joined AFC Sunderland on loan from French Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
Samed’s move from Lens was confirmed in the late hours of the main transfer window after the Ghanaian international fell out of favour of Lens’ head coach, Will Still and was relegated to the reserve team.
By joining the EFL Championship side, Samed becomes the fifth player to play for Sunderland after Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah, Antoine Semenyo and Sulley Muntari.
Speaking in his first interview as a Sunderland player, Samed recognized Asamoah Gyan’s connection to Sunderland stating,
“I met Asamoah Gyan when I was away with the national team, and he talks to us and gives us advice. We sometimes talk on the phone. I don’t think he knows I’m here yet, but when he does I’m sure he’ll be very happy.”

In his two year run with Lens, Samed played 72 times and registered a goal and an assist after joining from Clermont Foot.
