Spintex Knights Basketball Club co-founder, Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi, believes that fatigue played a big role in the team’s losses in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) preliminary round.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after Knights progressed from the early stages of the continental championship after finishing second in the West Division Group B. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

After beating Elan Coton Sport from Benin 94-66 in the opening game, Knights lost to Abidjan Fighters and Mighty Barolle from Liberia 69-73. The three games were played across three days.

Aside Abidjan Fighters, the remaining teams in the group finished with a win and two losses and spotting a better point differential was enough to get Knights through.

“The team got to Libya, 9 AM Libya time and they were due to play at 3 pm…They even had to leave their passports behind so they could catch up with a bit of sleep around 11 am before the game at 3.”

Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi

“Then the next day, we played against our biggest game against the ABC Fighters kudos to them; a very very professional team. Then we also played Mighty Barolle.”
