The Black Queens of Ghana will take on the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco today, February 21, 2025, at 5 PM in an international friendly as part of their preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The match, to be played at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca, will be the first game under new head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, who replaces Swiss tactician Nora Häuptle.

As part of their training camp in Morocco, the Black Queens will also face AS FAR Rabat, the reigning Moroccan club champions and one of Africa’s top women’s teams, three days after they clash with the national team.
These matches will serve as crucial tests for Björkegren to assess his squad and implement his tactical philosophy ahead of the continental tournament.

Despite acknowledging the challenges of playing away from home and adjusting to a new coaching system, Björkegren remains optimistic about the team’s progress.
Morocco is a good team with a lot of talent. Playing away from home will be a challenge, especially with our new coaching staff and players. But we’re focused on building for the long term, learning from our mistakes, and preparing for the summer tournament. We’ll work hard to win, but we’re also looking at the bigger picture.
With WAFCON fast approaching in July, these games will provide the Black Queens with valuable experience and a chance to build cohesion under their new leadership under Kim Lars Björkegren
