Veteran sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu has slammed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over its handling of the Black Stars heading coach situation.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports on the one year anniversary of the Save Ghana Football Movement demonstration that rocked Accra on February 14, 2024 after Ghana crashed out of the 2023 AFCON at the group stage.
After the tournament, the GFA appointed Otto Addo as Black Stars head coach who oversaw Ghana’s worst qualification campaign to miss out qualifying to the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.
Former AFCON winner Winfried Schafer has since been appointed as the Black Stars Technical Advisor to help Otto Addo ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

However, Schafer applied for the Black Stars job before it was handed to Otto Addo who didn’t even apply for the job according to Kankam Boadu who believes that this series of moves highlight a “state of confusion”.

“The sad thing is that one of the people who applied for the job and didn’t even qualify to be interviewed has now been appointed by the GFA as the technical advisor to the coach who was appointed even when he did not apply so it’s more like we are in a state of confusion” Boadu said.
