President of Ghana Athletics, Bawa Fuseini, has emphasized that Yaw Ampofo Ankrah’s immediate priority as the new Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) should be to restore public confidence and enhance the institution’s image.
The NSA has come under intense scrutiny in recent years, particularly regarding the management of national stadia. Former leaders, including Prof. Peter Twumasi and Dodzie Numekevor, faced heavy criticism on issues of mismanagement of the facilities.
Speaking exclusively to Citi Sports, Bawa Fuseini expressed confidence in Yaw Ampofo Ankrah’s ability to turn things around, stating that he is highly capable and well-positioned to justify his appointment.
In a corresponding move, hitherto Acting Director-General of the NSA, Seth Panwum’s appointment as the lead man of the NSA has been terminated.
“Yaw is capable and qualified and I believe that he will be able to justify the reason why he’s been appointed to head the National Sports Authority. All of us are there to support him and I’m very hopeful and I know what Yaw can do and I have a strong conviction that Yaw will succeed.”

“His immediate task at the National Sports Authority is to regain public confidence and integrity. For me, the image or reputation of an institution is very very critical so what he needs to do as quickly as possible is to work to restore the image of the national sports authority and afterwards, he can implement his ideas or the ideas of the ruling government who have put him there. ”

Ankrah is set to work hand in hand with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to address the challenges of the authority and enhance Ghana’s presence on the regional and global stage
His appointment has been met with widespread approval, following a series of leaders entrusted with navigating the NSA through difficult periods.
