The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has established a new Communications Sub-Committee to enhance its communication strategy and promote the Olympic Movement in Ghana.

Announced on May 23, 2025, the subcommittee comprises seasoned professionals in communications, sports, and media.

It is tasked with revitalising Ghanaian sports by improving visibility, public trust, and engagement.

The subcommittee’s mandate includes leading the design, coordination, and execution of all internal and external communication activities for the GOC.

It aims to position the GOC leadership as credible and responsive, serving as a liaison between the GOC, key audiences—including federations, the public, media, and international bodies—and providing technical communication support to national sports federations.

Additionally, it will promote accurate, timely, and consistent messaging related to the GOC’s goals and activities.

The GOC believes this subcommittee will play a vital role in showcasing Ghana’s sports achievements and promoting Olympic values.

It will be chaired by Mr. Ernest Danso, 3rd Vice-President of the GOC, with Mr. Edwin Amankwah, a GOC Board Member, as a member, and Mr. Edmund Ackom serving as a Digital Consultant. Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President and Founder of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF), will serve as Communication Director, while Kenneth Odeng Adade, Secretary-General of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation, will act as Press Officer.

“We are excited about this development and confident that the Communications Sub-Committee will help us achieve our goals by developing and implementing effective communication strategies that will promote the GOC’s programs and activities to enhance stakeholder engagement and media relations,” said Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the GOC.

The announcement was made by Muniru Kassim Mohammed, Secretary-General of the Ghana Olympic Committee, signalling a new era of strategic communication for Ghanaian sports.
