Immediate past Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Abraham Neequaye has fired a stern warning to the Minister of Sports and Recreation and the National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General telling them to steer sports away from politics.
He said this in a combative tone at a presser held on Monday, June 30 at the Accra Sports Stadium mere days after announcing his resignation from the position as President of the GBA.
The former GBA boss and the Sports Ministry led by Kofi Adams and NSA Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, have had a turbulent relationship with the omission of a GBA representative from a seven man committee set up by the Sports Ministry to investigate the passing of Nigerian boxer Oluwasegun Gabriel earlier this year being a flashpoint in the relationship.
According to Abraham Neequaye, the Sports Minister and the NSA Director-General are playing politics with sports and called for it to stop stating,

“I will also encourage the board members I’m leaving behind that the NSA and the Ministry [Sports] have no right to set the GBA aside. They don’t have that right. They should not bring politics into sports; sports is different and politics is different.”

“Sports is sports, politics should stay away. I am a politician and they are having issues with me that is why I’m staying away from sports so they should also stay away from sports.”
