West Ham United Vice Chair, Karren Brady, has indicated that Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus’ underwhelming performance in the 2024-2025 season played a role in his exit from the club.
In an interview with TalkSport, the administrator clarified why West Ham let Kudus go for 55 million pounds to London rival Tottenham Hotspurs in a six year deal.
While pointing out the need to comply with PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules), Karren Brady added that Kudus’ poorer than expected campaign in the immediate past season was partly why West Ham moved him on.
“The financial restraints and the PSR and all the rules and regulations in football in mean that you have to do some trading. That’s just the way it is. All clubs are having to do it…so that was the decision made. [Kudus] didn’t particularly have a good season for West Ham last year by his own standards. So we looked to move on” Brady said.

In his first season, Kudus finished in second place in West Ham’s Player of the Season Award but registered just three assists in 32 league games in his second season prior to his move to Spurs.

In his first league game for Spurs, Kudus registered two assists in a 3-0 win over Burnley.
