Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag has criticized German side Bayer Leverkusen for sacking him from his role as head coach of the club in an unprecedented fashion.
He delivered this strong statement in a release via his agency in the wake of his dismissal from the role after just two league games in the German League.
Under Ten Hag, Leverkusen lost 2-1 to TSG Hoffenheim and drew 3-3 with Werder Bremen to start the season winless. Against Bremen, Ten Hag’s side led 3-1 against a 10 man team but ended up drawing the game which led to the sack.
Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro termed the sacking as a painful but a necessary one but Ten Hag held a different view stating, (Click highlighted text to read full story)
“The decision by Bayer Leverkusen’s management this morning to put me on a leave of absence came as a complete surprise. To part ways with a coach after just two league matches is unprecedented.”

“This summer, many key players who were part of past successes left the squad. Building a new, cohesive team is a careful process that requires both time and trust. A new coach deserves the space to implement his vision, set the standards, shape the squad and leave his mark on the style of play.”

Ten Hag won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during his time at Manchester United.
