In Bayer Leverkusen’s first game since sacking former Manchester United head coach Erik Ten Tag, the club has bagged its first win.
After relieving Ten Hag of his duties just two games into the 2025-2026 German Bundesliga season, Leverkusen secured a 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt under new head coach Kasper Hjulmand.
Hjulmand replaced Ten Hag as Leverkusen head coach in the lead up to the international break and got his career at his new club off to a fast start by picking up the win thanks to a brace from Alejandro Grimaldo and a strike from forward Patrik Schick.
Speaking after the game to Leverkusen media, Hjulmand noted that his team wasn’t at its best but was happy with the win stating
“A lot happened in this game. In the end, we’re very pleased.”

“Obviously not everything and we’ve got a lot of work ahead but the team showed great character today. It was a very good start.”
Leverkusen take on Denmark’s FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday, September 18 at 16:45 GMT.
