Manchester United’s patchwork side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park, extending their struggle for consistency in the Premier League.
Villa drew first blood in the 45th minute when Rogers received a pass from McGinn, kept the ball in play on the left, and curled a precise finish past goalkeeper Senne Lammens
United almost responded immediately, but it took a defensive lapse from Villa to allow Matheus Cunha to level the score in stoppage time of the first half. Cunha remained calm inside the box to slot home, giving United hope heading into the break.

The second half, however, belonged to Villa. Rogers doubled his tally in the 57th minute with a near-identical curling finish, exploiting another lapse in United’s defensive organization.
Despite dominating possession in the closing stages and creating multiple opportunities, including efforts from Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot, and Cunha, United were unable to breach Villa’s disciplined defence again.

Manager Unai Emery made all his substitutions, including the late introduction of Bogarde for Kamara, but United’s reshuffles failed to spark a comeback.
Shea Lacey made his first senior appearance, while Jack Fletcher and Joshua Zirkzee were also brought on to bolster the attack, highlighting the team’s reliance on youth in a depleted squad.

The match was also marked by a flurry of yellow cards, with Bogarde and Ugarte booked for fouls, reflecting United’s frustrations in midfield and defence. Lisandro Martinez often found himself covering multiple roles, while Bruno Fernandes limped through the second half, adding to United’s challenges.
Villa’s clinical finishing and United’s inability to capitalise on possession ultimately decided the game, leaving United with more questions than answers ahead of their next Premier League fixture.
