Ghana has officially sealed its status as host of the 24th CAA African Senior Athletics Championships following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Ghana Athletics, and the Government of Ghana.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the Republic of Ghana by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adam, formally confirming the country’s commitment to stage the continental championship from May 12 to 17, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, Accra.


The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation Conference Room and attracted a high-level delegation from the Confederation of African Athletics, led by its President, Mr. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lamine Fati. Also in attendance was the CAA Region Two delegation, headed by Chief Tonobok Okowa.
Ghana Athletics was represented by its President, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, alongside officials from the Ghana Olympic Committee, led by Lawyer Richard Akakpovie, and the National Sports Authority, represented by the Deputy Director General (Technical), Madam Victoria Commey.

Other key stakeholders were present and expressed confidence in Ghana’s readiness to deliver a successful championship.
The MoU signing formally underscores Ghana’s acceptance of the hosting rights and outlines the framework for collaboration between the CAA, Ghana Athletics, and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation ahead of the 2026 event.
Earlier in the day, officials from the CAA and Ghana Athletics undertook courtesy visits to the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Olympic Committee, and the University of Ghana Sports Directorate as part of ongoing engagements and preparations for the championships.
The 24th CAA African Senior Athletics Championships are expected to attract elite athletes from across Africa, further strengthening Ghana’s standing as a trusted host for major international sporting competitions.
