Liverpool’s Premier League title defence stuttered again as a resolute Leeds United side earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Anfield, producing a defensive performance that deservedly silenced the champions’ attack.
The hosts dominated possession and territory for long spells but were left frustrated by a well-organised Leeds backline marshalled superbly by Pascal Struijk, who was immense throughout the contest.
Arne Slot’s side started brightly and carved out the clearest chances of the first half, but profligacy in front of goal proved costly.

Hugo Ekitike squandered a golden opportunity six yards out after Jeremie Frimpong’s delivery, while Florian Wirtz and Virgil van Dijk both failed to capitalise on set-piece openings.
Leeds, meanwhile, carried a threat of their own on the counter and nearly stunned Anfield when Dominic Calvert-Lewin dinked the ball over Alisson late on — only for the offside flag to deny the visitors a dramatic breakthrough.

Liverpool pushed late in search of a winner, throwing on Federico Chiesa and teenage prospect Rio Ngumoha, but creativity dried up in the final third. Despite six minutes of added time and sustained pressure, the champions were unable to break Leeds’ resistance.

As frustration grew among the Anfield crowd, Leeds held firm to secure a massive point ; a result that underlined their organisation, belief and growing confidence back in the Premier League.
For Liverpool, it was another night of unanswered questions in attack, and another reminder that dominance alone is no guarantee of victory.
