Interim head coach of Manchester United, Michael Carrick, has stated that selecting Harry Maguire as a starter for the club’s game against Manchester City was a gamble that paid off.
He said this after Man United beat city rivals Manchester City in a dominant display in Carrick’s first game following his appointment as head coach earlier this week.
Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu scored in the win that had Man United score two more goals but got chopped off for offside. The win ended a run of frustrating results for the Red Devils.
Reacting to the win to the club’s media, Carrick described picking Harry Maguire as a starter as a calculated gamble considering the English defender just returned from injury.

“Yeah, I thought Kobbie [Mainoo] was great in there alongside Case [Casemiro]. It was a big ask for H [Maguire] and credit to him.”

“I’m not going to lie, it was a bit of a calculated gamble as well of how long he could play and if he could get through it because he’s literally trained for two or three days for probably eight or nine weeks, so it just shows you what it means really to him” Carrick said.
