Reigning CAF Men’s Footballer of the Year Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial for alleged rape involving a woman in Paris, France.
Hakimi’s lawyer Fanny Colin, confirmed the news and added that, “A trial has been ordered based on an accusation that rests solely on the word of a woman who obstructed all investigations, refused all medical examinations and DNA testing, refused access to her mobile phone, and refused to provide the name of a key witness.”
A 24 year old woman alleged that Hakimi assaulted her in the French capital in an incident dating back to February 2023 and the development has been welcomed by the plaintiff’s representative Rachel-Flore Pardo.
However, Hakimi has expressed disappointment over the development via a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) page stating,

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial. This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

Hakimi was an integral member of Paris Saint-Germain’s team that won the UEFA Champions League, French League and French Cup treble last season.

He recently finished second with Morocco at the 2025 AFCON after recovering from a serious ankle injury.
