Liverpool manager Arne Slot says playing attractive, entertaining football is more important in the long term than simply collecting trophies.

Slot made the comments while reflecting on Liverpool’s difficult season compared to last year’s historic success. The Dutch coach enjoyed a dream debut campaign at Anfield after securing the Premier League title in his first season, but has struggled to replicate that form this year, with the Reds currently sixth on the league table  14 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Speaking about his football philosophy, Slot stressed that success is not only measured by silverware but also by the identity and style a team represents.

“As a manager, you can win the league… you can win the Champions League… but the biggest thing you can win is that you can play the nicest football to watch… I always want to have the ball. I want it to be intense.”

The Liverpool boss admitted that some fans may disagree, especially during a challenging run of results, but insists his priority remains building a team supporters genuinely enjoy watching.

He added:
“I want the fans to like what they see… I even understand because I agree with them… Trophies is one thing but being a team or a club or a manager that stands for good football is I think in the long term even worth more.

Slot’s remarks underline his commitment to an attacking and possession-based philosophy, even as pressure mounts for immediate results.

For many Liverpool supporters, the balance between winning and entertainment may be up for debate — but for Slot, beautiful football remains the ultimate prize.
