Delap starred in Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Hull by registering a hat-trick of assists on a night Chelsea winger Pedro Neto scored his first ever career hat-trick of goals.
English forward Delap provided two assists for Neto and added another for Estevao in the win that qualifies Chelsea to the next round.
However, Delap shockingly missed a big chance earlier in the game when the score was goalless by failing to slot a loose ball into the net but rather made a bee line to run off to celebrate while expecting the whistle to be blown for a scored goal.
However, the ball didn’t cross the line contrary to Delap’s belief and his delayed response allowed Hull goalkeeper Dillon Phillips to recover and block Delap’s shot.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Delap said his actions were silly but was happy with the win by stating,

“I swear on my life I almost ran off, I thought it went in and was waiting for the referee to blow his whistle. It was silly from me but I thought it was in.”
His miss comes days after teammate Cole Palmer squandered an absolute can’t miss chance two yards from goal. (Click highlighted text to wwatch video)
